The main idea of the New Museum in Treblinka is based on the symbolism of the road. From the very beginning, visitors to the museum follow a strictly defined path, which is a metaphor for the path taken by the prisoners of the camp. Architecture, with its form and the materials used, is meant to overwhelm and encourage reflection. To recall the memory of the people who were brought to the camp and were moving along the route marked by their torturers. The long and narrow path initially passes through the underground part of the memorial route, which shows the history of the camp. Then, through the main entrance, we go to the inner lobby, which leads us higher and higher through another narrow, high and austere rooms – arousing a feeling of discomfort and anxiety in visitors. The end of the path is the observation tower, from which there is a view of the surrounding landscape, showing the scale of the former extermination camp and the further sightseeing route.
Due to the importance of the place, it was decided that the New Museum would cover the existing building, hiding its external shape. It will not be visible from either side and, therefore, it is not required to transform its external façade during the construction phase of a new building. This procedure will allow you to create a high-quality space without breaking the competition assumptions. The old building will be given a new function, while over time it will be possible to rebuild it and change the façade to a dark façade made of burnt wood or to demolish it in order to create a new architectural interior. These solutions will affect not only the budget, but also the practicality of the coexistence of old and new building. The new building is surrounded by the existing facility, thanks to which its spaces are flexibly used for the planned conference, educational and exhibition functions. The space of a new and existing building is used for archival and research activities at the same time. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to enjoy a well-developed and coherent space and exhibitions.

Idea Główna idea Nowego Muzeum w Treblince opiera się na symbolice drogi. Odwiedzający muzeum od samego początku przemieszczają się po ściśle wyznaczonej ścieżce, która jest metaforą drogi, jaką przebyli więźniowie obozu. Architektura swoją formą oraz użytymi materiałami ma przytłaczać i skłaniać do refleksji. Przywoływać pamięć ludzi, którzy zostali przywiezieni do obozu i poruszali się po wyznaczonej przez swoich oprawców trasie. Długa i wąska ścieżka przechodzi początkowo przez podziemną część trasy pamięci, na której przedstawiono historię obozu. Następnie przez główne wejście trafiamy do wewnętrznego lobby, które kieruje nas coraz wyżej przez kolejne wąskie, wysokie i surowe pomieszczenia – wzbudzające w odwiedzających poczucie dyskomfortu i niepokoju. Finałem ścieżki jest wieża widokowa, z której rozpościera się widok na otaczający krajobraz, ukazując skalę dawnego obozu zagłady oraz dalszą trasę zwiedzania.
Z uwagi na rangę miejsca postanowiono, że Nowe Muzeum otuli istniejący budynek, ukrywając jego zewnętrzny kształt. Nie będzie on widoczny z żadnej ze stron i co za tym idzie, nie jest wymagane, aby na etapie budowy nowego budynku przekształcać jego elewację zewnętrzną. Zabieg ten pozwoli na stworzenie wysokiej jakości przestrzeni, jednocześnie nie łamiąc założeń konkursu. Staremu budynkowi zostanie nadana nowa funkcja, natomiast z biegiem czasu będzie istniała możliwość jego przebudowy i zmiany elewacji na ciemną fasadę z palonego drewna lub rozbiórki w celu wykreowania nowego architektonicznego wnętrza. Rozwiązania te wpłyną nie tylko na budżet, ale i praktyczność współ funkcjonowania starej i nowej tkanki. Nowy budynek otacza istniejący obiekt, dzięki czemu jego przestrzenie zostają elastycznie wykorzystane do planowanych funkcji konferencyjnej oraz edukacyjno-wystawienniczej. Przestrzeń nowego i istniejącego budynku jest równocześnie używana do działalności archiwalnej i badawczej. Zwiedzający wystawę będą mogli cieszyć się dobrze zagospodarowaną oraz spójną przestrzenią oraz ekspozycjami.
